The power of emotional momentum, The Kristi Jones Show Podcast

We all have those days where the motivation just isn’t there. You know, the kind where your to-do list feels heavier than usual, your coffee doesn’t quite hit, and your brain is stuck in neutral. For years, I used to chase motivation like it was the magic fix for everything. But here’s what I’ve learned: you don’t need motivation, you need emotional momentum.

Emotional momentum is what keeps you moving when your energy dips or life gets messy. It’s not about hype or perfection; it’s about trust, consistency, and taking one small step that leads to another. In this episode of The Kristi Jones Show, I’m sharing how to build it, protect it, and use it to crush those “blah” days that sneak up on all of us.

What Is Emotional Momentum (and Why Motivation Won’t Cut It)

Motivation feels great in the moment, but it’s often fleeting. You might get a spark after listening to a great podcast or scrolling through an inspiring quote but when the excitement fades, you’re right back where you started.

Emotional momentum, on the other hand, comes from within. It’s built through small, intentional actions that reinforce your belief in yourself. When you take consistent steps forward, even when no one’s watching, you strengthen your ability to keep going, no matter what life throws your way.

Think of emotional momentum as a muscle. The more you use it, the stronger it gets. And unlike motivation, it doesn’t disappear when things get hard.

How Micro-Wins Build Emotional Momentum

When you’re stuck in a rut, big goals can feel overwhelming. That’s why I love focusing on micro-wins; those tiny actions that seem small but add up in a powerful way.

Maybe it’s sending that email you’ve been avoiding. Or finishing a quick workout. Or simply making your bed. These small wins are proof that you can follow through, and that proof builds trust. Over time, that trust turns into confidence and confidence fuels momentum.

Each micro-win is like a breadcrumb leading you forward. You might not see the whole picture yet, but with every little victory, the path ahead becomes clearer.

Simple Rituals to Keep Emotional Momentum Going

Even when life slows down or feels heavy, rituals keep you anchored. They don’t have to be big or elaborate; they just need to be consistent.

Here are a few of my go-tos when I feel myself slipping into “blah” mode:

  • Start your day with water and movement. A glass of water and five minutes of stretching can shift your energy fast.
  • Journal one line of gratitude. It grounds you in what’s good, even on rough days.
  • Set tech boundaries. Pick a time each evening to unplug. It does wonders for your focus and peace of mind.
  • Celebrate one win each day. No matter how small, acknowledge it; it reinforces that you’re moving forward.

These rituals build rhythm. And rhythm builds resilience. When you move with consistency, your emotional momentum grows naturally.

One Action Step to Build Emotional Momentum Today

If you take away one thing from this episode, let it be this: action creates clarity, not the other way around.

Pick one small thing today that gives you energy. Maybe it’s making that phone call, finishing a task you’ve put off, or taking a walk outside. Do it now. Don’t wait for motivation to show up because it rarely does.

Once you take that first small step, your confidence will follow. That’s emotional momentum in action.
