Woman loading her car with groceries because it's best to do it now than procrastinate - The Kristi Jones Show Podcast

We’ve all done it: Put off sending that email; Left the workout shoes by the door; Sat on a big idea because it wasn’t “the right time.” The truth is, waiting for the perfect moment is just procrastination dressed up as preparation. And if you’ve ever whispered “I’ll do it tomorrow,” you know how easily tomorrow becomes never. That’s why I believe the key to change is simple: Do It Now. Small moves made in the present create the momentum that transforms your future.

Why We Delay Instead of Do It Now

Procrastination often feels harmless. We convince ourselves that waiting means we’re being strategic or careful. But most of the time, it’s perfectionism in disguise. We’re afraid of failing, so we overthink, plan endlessly, and keep circling around instead of stepping forward.

Here’s the hard truth: later is the cousin of never. Every time you choose to delay, you reinforce hesitation. But every time you decide to do it now, you build confidence and competence. The moment you act, even imperfectly, the weight of indecision starts to lift.

The Compounding Effect of Do It Now

RELATED: Do It NOW: The Habit That Changes Everything

When you act immediately, even in small ways, you tap into the power of compounding. One email leads to a conversation, which leads to a new opportunity. One workout creates energy for the next. One bold decision fuels your courage for bigger ones.

I’ve seen this in my own life and in the lives of leaders I coach. Success rarely comes from one big move. It comes from hundreds of small choices to simply do it now. Each action stacks on top of the other until you’ve created momentum that feels unstoppable.

Three Simple Strategies to Do It Now

Breaking free from procrastination doesn’t require a total life overhaul. It just takes small, repeatable steps. Here are three practical moves you can start today:

1. The 5-Minute Rule
Commit to five minutes. That’s it. Whether it’s drafting a proposal or cleaning out your inbox, once you start, momentum carries you further than you thought.

2. One-Decision Discipline
Remove the mental clutter. Instead of asking yourself ten times if you’ll do it, make one clear decision and stick with it. For example, set the alarm, lay out the workout clothes, and eliminate the debate.

3. The Future-Self Filter
Ask yourself: “What would the version of me I want to become do right now?” It’s a powerful question that shifts you out of hesitation and into alignment with the person you’re becoming.

Do It Now: The Challenge

Here’s my challenge to you this week: choose one thing you’ve been avoiding and do it now. Don’t wait for the right mood or the perfect conditions. Progress doesn’t come from delay, it comes from action.

When you choose to do it now, you gain clarity. You build confidence. You strengthen the muscle of showing up for your life. And that one step you take today could be the one that changes everything tomorrow.
