Lately, I’ve been thinking about just how powerful our perspective is. Not in some big, dramatic, rah-rah way—but in those everyday moments where your thoughts quietly shape your mood, your choices, your energy, and even your outcomes.
We all hit seasons where we feel stuck or discouraged, and sometimes the only thing that’s really in our way is the way we’re looking at the situation. That’s exactly what I explored on this week’s podcast episode: how the way we see our circumstances often matters more than the circumstances themselves.

Why Perspective Matters

We tend to think that if we could just change our external circumstances—get the promotion, find the perfect schedule, hit the next milestone—then we’d finally feel peace, clarity, or fulfillment. But what I’ve learned, in my own life and through coaching clients, is that it actually starts with changing the lens you’re using to interpret your current situation.
Perspective shapes our energy. It determines whether we approach something with dread or curiosity, with fear or confidence. And over time, that mindset directly impacts your performance, your relationships, and even your physical health.
The Trap of a Fixed Mindset
One of the biggest things I see holding people back is getting stuck in a fixed mindset. That little voice that says:
“I’ve always been this way.”
“This is just how life is for me.”
“I’m not like other people who succeed at ___.”
That narrative might feel safe and familiar—but it also limits what’s possible.
What if instead, you asked:
“What’s another way to see this?”
“What if I’m capable of more than I’ve been giving myself credit for?”
That’s where the shift happens.
Real-Life Perspective Shifts
I’ve worked with clients who’ve gone from self-doubt to stepping into brand new roles or careers simply by adjusting their internal dialogue. One client recently told me that changing how she viewed a difficult season—from a setback to a setup—gave her the motivation to take a bold new step she’d been avoiding for years. It wasn’t magic. It was perspective.
Try This: Habits to Keep Your Mindset in Check

Here are a few small ways you can start pivoting your perspective this week:
- Start a “proof journal”: At the end of each day, jot down 1-3 things that prove you’re making progress or showing up in alignment with your goals.
- Name the narrative: When you hear a negative or limiting thought, ask yourself, Whose voice is this? Is it even true?
- Practice zooming out: When you’re in the thick of a tough moment, imagine how you’ll look back on it a year from now. What will matter most?
These tools may seem simple, but over time, they compound into a deeper, more empowered way of living.
